FOR SOONEST OSSETIAN SETTLEMENT#

TBILISI, July 8 (RIA Novosti) - Heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Tbilisi come out for the soonest settlement of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict, Novosti-Georgia reported.

The diplomats shared their opinions with journalists following the meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania on Thursday.

The situation is "highly dangerous, complicated and fraught with serious problems in Georgian and the region as a whole," said Russian ambassador to Georgia Vladimir Chkhikishvili.

According to Italian ambassador Fabrizio Romano, "international community is concerned about the developments in Tskhinvali and calls the sides to dialogue". "Stability should be preserved in the region," the Italian diplomat stressed.

"We back the efforts and see a possibility of a peaceful settlement under the conditions of preservation of Georgia's territorial integrity," said Ukrainian ambassador Nikolai Spys.

"Azerbaijan comes out for Georgia's integrity and stability," noted Azeri ambassador Ramiz Guseinov.

Meanwhile, Premier Zurab Zhvania and US Secretary of State Colin Powell discussed the situation in the Tskhinvali region (the Georgian name of the self-proclaimed republic of South Ossetia) by phone on Thursday.

Mr. Zhvania informed the US leadership about the situation in the region and further moves on the Georgian-Ossetian settlement.

The US Secretary of State promised the Georgian Prime Minister to hold consultations with the Russian authorities on this issue.
