EDINBURGH, July 8 (RIA Novosti) - Undoubtedly, Russia should be widely represented in ruling structures of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (PA OSCE), head of the Federation Council group in the Russian delegation at the 13th PA OSCE session Vladimir Kulakov said on Thursday.

Elections of rapporteurs were held in two PA OSCE committees and two Russian candidates were nominated, he noted. Leonid Ivanchenko was elected rapporteur of the committee on economic affairs, science, technology and environment for the third year, while Lyudmila Narusova failed to win votes to become rapporteur of the committee on democracy, human rights and humanitarian questions, Mr. Kulakov went on.

"Unfortunately, Ms Narusova who participated in the session for the first time lost three votes to her rival from Belgium," he added.

"However, we decided to keep working as the rapporteur is elected for one year only," Vladimir Kulakov proceeded. He expects Lyudmila Narusova to take this post next year.

Speaking about the prospects of Mr. Ivanchenko's work, he said that next year Leonid Ivanchenko could run for the office of the committee's deputy chairman or even chairman.

Moreover, next year State Duma Boris Gryzlov will be nominated for deputy chairmanship at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

"Certainly, we should consolidate our positions in the OSCE PA as it meets Russia's interests," Mr. Kulakov stressed. "Any international organization is unimportant without Russia," he concluded.
