MOSCOW, JUNE 22 (RIA Novosti) - Britain is interested in the import of liquefied gas from Russia.

Much hope is pinned in Britain on the import of liquefied natural gas and several projects to import it from Russia, Algeria and Qatar are under consideration, Brian Wilson, special energy aide for the British prime minister, told RIA Novosti.

Such companies as British Petroleum and Shell are very much interested in cooperation with Russian companies and can come in with their expertise and technologies, he said.

Wilson noted that such talks on Russian imports should be held at the level of companies, rather than governments. Matters of cooperation are to a larger degree in the hands of private companies and are not held at the level of governments, he added.

In the next few years, the import of liquefied natural gas will have the lion's share in Britain's gas imports, he said. The possibility of cooperation for British companies exists with every region and country capable of such export, Brian Wilson noted.

The British Trade and Industry Ministry forecasts that, owing to the growth of consumption and the depletion of own reserves, in 2006 the country will begin to import gas and in 2010 oil.
