GROZNY, June 20 - RIA Novosti. Four individuals were detained in the Sernovodsk district of Chechnya on suspicion of their involvement in illegal armed formations, the Chechen police told RIA Novosti on Sunday.

"Yesterday at 0420 a police special operations team detained two men in the town of Sernovodsk, Sunzha district. They were Nakaev brothers; a relative of theirs and a local resident named Basayev were also detained on suspicion of involvement in illegal armed formations," the police officer said.

He added that the police were investigating into the brothers' criminal record and possible relation between the detained Basayev and the prominent Chechen warlord.

"They are most probably namesakes," the police said.

The Chechen police added, "Yesterday two mortar shells exploded at the parking site of agricultural machines of state-run enterprise Jalka in the administrative center of Shali. These shells were fired by unidentified individuals from the side of the Village of Avtury."

The fragments wounded two Jalka employees, the police officer said.
