RUSSIAN-ASSEMBLED RENAULT LOGANS FOR SALE NEXT SPRING

MOSCOW, June 18 (RIA Novosti) - The Renault has started a Moscow-based joint venture, the Autoframos. Its first cars will come out next spring. The Renault Logans have been specially designed for Russian use, Jean-Michel Jalinier, Autoframos Director General, said to newsmen as they visited the autoworks, presently under construction. "We will be making Logans here in Russia, and for Russia."

The Renault has scheduled new assembly works commissioning for next year's start to launch a three-shift arrangement late in 2006. The personnel will be entirely Russian. "All are young alumni of Russian technical colleges, with fine qualifications. Many of them are now undergoing training in French-based Renault works." Assembly hands will be offered job opportunities toward this year's end. The joint venture expects to take on fifty a month as it needs two thousand for the conveyor to work round-the-clock, added Mr. Jalinier.

The Renault will make ambitious contracts, late this year, with two Russian-based companies for some of Logan parts. The number of Russian supplier companies will gradually extend to bring the Logan price down, though even the initial will be quite reasonable. "The produce is to be always flawless, up to standards of the Renault's European branches. Nothing matters more to us as we are choosing partners in Russia," he stressed.

The Renault Moscow works is expected to assemble twelve Logans an hour for an annual 60,000 at seven to ten thousand Euro apiece, depending on equipment.

The Renault and Moscow municipal authorities together established the Autoframos open-end joint-stock company, July 2, 1998, on a parity arrangement.
