- On June 8 - July 15 the history museum in Naberezhnye Chelny, Tatarstan, is hosting an exhibition titled "Shoed flea and other microscopic miracles". It presents 140 micro-miniatures by Anatoly Konenko.

Konenko lives in Omsk. There are permanent exhibitions of his works in the Czech Republic and France. The current exposition in Naberezhnye Chelny has already been shown in Europe and America. It includes all kinds of micro-miniatures, from drawings and watercolors to pieces of decorative art.

Micro watercolors are one of Konenko's genres. Portraits he made on rice grains were given as presents to Presidents Bush, Carter and Yeltsin.

It takes him from one to three months to make one watercolor. He is the author of the world's tiniest icon. One of the most amazing exhibits is a gold cross on a chain embedded in a human hair. Another unique work is a chess sketch on a chessboard 4x4 mm, the tiniest chess in the world. Konenko has given such micro sketches to famous Russian chess players, Anatoly Karpov and Garry Kasparov.

The exhibition also presents the world's tiniest balalaika. It is put in a case made of a poppy seed. The exact copy of the instrument is included in the Guinness World Records Book as the tiniest musical instrument.

Konenko has also created the tiniest book on the planet, which is 0.9 mm long. It is a story by Chekhov, Khameleon (Chameleon). Konenko seams his books with a thin silk thread and makes a real cover for them.

- On June 11 - July 11 the Radishchev museum in Saratov is hosting an exhibition titled "Scarlet Rose" to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Russian symbolists' exhibition of the same name.

In 1904 Saratov for the first time showed such a large-scale exhibition of works by Sergei Sudeikin, Pavel Kuznetsov, Petr Utkin, Martiros Saryan and Nikolai Sapunov. Honorary exhibitors were Mikhail Vrubel and Viktor Borisov-Musatov.

This year three Saratov museums will open anniversary exhibitions: the Pavel Kuznetsov house-museum, the Borisov-Musatov manor and the Radishchev state art museum. The exhibitions will present works by Borisov-Musatov, Vrubel, Utkin, Saryan, Sapunov, as well as paintings by Henri Matisse and Maurice Denis from the Pushkin state museum of fine arts.

- On June 12 - September 5. Ostankino, the Moscow manor of Count Nikolai Sheremetyev (1751-1809), one of the wealthiest people in the 18th-century Russia, will host the musical festival Sheremetyevo Seasons in Ostankino. The festival will be held in a theatre built after Sheremetyev's project.

It is the only in Russia and one of the few European wooden theaters of the 18th century that have been preserved in their original form till nowadays. Among other things, the theatre has magnificent acoustics. Being a passionate theater lover, Count Sheremetyev made a troupe of his serfs that became known due to the brilliant performance of serf actress Parasha Zhemchugova.

The Sheremetyevo Seasons in Ostankino continue the theatrical and musical traditions of the manor. Operas, ballets and concerts given in the historic interior give the audience a rare opportunity to immerse in the atmosphere of past feasts. This year the festival will be attended by celebrated musicians: Yelena Bryleva, solo singer of the Bolshoi Theater, Russia, and the State Opera, Dusseldorf; Marina Poplavskaya, laureate of international contests, solo singer of the Bolshoi Theater and the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theater; Yana Ivanilova, laureate of international contests.

Among musical bands that will take part in the festival are Moscow Baroque, Orfarion, Madrigal, Moscow's Klassik-Ansambl, Solisty Barokko, Ermitazh, Kontsertino and Elegiya.

This summer the stage of the Ostankino theater will for the first time receive the guitar duet of Anastasiya Bardina and Dmitry Koltakov; a vocal ensemble Piligrim that performs ancient European and Russian music; Moscow ensemble Mandoline; ensemble of ancient music Da camera e da Chiesa (art director Viktor Felitsiant).

- On June 15 - July 15 the Moscow House of Photograph is hosting an exhibition titled "Goal" and devoted to the European Football Cup 2004. The project is presented within Photo Biennale 2004.

The House offers a collection of the brightest and most dramatic episodes from European Cups.

The exhibition shows photos that embrace the soccer history from the 1920s till today. For the first time the visitors can see Lev Yashin, Pele, Diego Maradona, Oleg Blokhin and Zinedine Zidane on the same "field".

The historic part of the exhibition features 40,000 photos. These are unique shots of three generations of sports photographers, Nikolai, Maria and Yevgeny Volkov.

The special feature of the exhibition is that you can watch the developments in Portugal there: every day it is supplemented with the best shots by Reuter's correspondents.

Thus, by the end of the month the exhibition will double and will take all spare space in the House of Photograph and its street windows.

- On June 18-19, when St. Petersburg has twilight all night, it will host the second annual international Petropavlovsk jazz festival. The festival's concept suggests representation of many forms of modern jazz and topical directions. The focus will be on original author's music. Within the festival the city's jazz clubs will organize special program, and a large concert will be held in the Petropavlosk fortress with participation of celebrated foreign and Russian musicians.

This will definitely become a brightest even in St. Petersburg's cultural life.

Denise Perrier, the best known jazz singer in San Francisco, whose voice was liked by Louis Armstrong himself, is expected to perform. The visitors will also have a chance to listen to the project Jazzmania of American Mike Mainieri, which comprises such celebrities as vibraphonist Mike Mainieri, one of the world's best known bass guitar players Victor Bailey, pianist and producer Jim Beard. Also, the festival will be attended by Napua Davoy, a leading jazz singer from New York. She has already produced several albums recorded together with recognized stars of modern American jazz.
