ROSTOV-ON-DON, June 12 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian arms and munitions motorcade appeared in the Georgian-Osset conflict zone yesterday, says information circulated in Tbilisi.

Russia's North Caucasian Military District HQ denies the alarming rumour. As things really are, peacekeeping forces in the area are going about scheduled rotation, so lorries have come with food and other vital supplies, Igor Konashenkov, district commander's aide, explained to Novosti.

Apart from foodstuffs, the lorries brought a stock of tents, firewood, and car and lorry spare parts, he added.

"No military technologies and munitions have been dispatched to South Ossetia," stressed the officer.

The alarm started as Zurab Zhvania, Georgia's Prime Minister, addressed the media in Tbilisi earlier on the day.

As he alleged, 150 Russian army vehicles brought a stock of arms yesterday to the Tskhinvali Region, as Georgians officially refer to South Ossetia, unrecognised republic within Georgia. There were five armoured infantry vehicles, several anti-aircraft installations, and a stock of munitions.

President Eduard Kokoity of South Ossetia addressed a news conference in Moscow the same day to deny the news.
