"Eurasia in the 21st Century: Cultural Dialogue and Conflict of Civilizations" will be held in Kyrgyzstan from June 9 to 12.
The UNESCO national commission in Kyrgystan has sent invitations to the leaders of 13 Eurasian states.
The summit is to be attended by prominent scholars, politicians and culture and religious figures from Austria, Belgium, the United Kingdom, India, Iran, Spain, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, the United States, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The forum may be gathered on the shores of mountain Lake Issyk-Kul.
Conferees will look into the capacity of the East and the West to be equal partners in a dialogue on principles of tolerance and mutual understanding.
"The main goal of this forum is to formulate a model for future society on the basis of cooperation and the mutual enrichment of national cultures in distinction from cultural monologue and cultural fundamentalism. Today when the population of many countries is becoming multiethnic, the development of democratic society is impossible without the capacity of its citizens to integrate their convictions with the others' values", the UNESCO spokesmen believe.
The conference was initiated by Kyrgyz President Askar Akaev at the 32nd session of the UNESCO General Conference last October. His initiative gained support from the UNESCO Secretary General.
Following results of the international forum, its participants will address the world public and adopt a resolution.
