MOSCOW, June 1 (RIA Novosti) - Alexei Miller, chairman of the board of Gazprom, and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon have reached agreement on early signing a memorandum on cooperation in the gas sphere, says the Gazprom press release, which has come to hand at RIA Novosti.

The Miller-Sharon talks were held during the working visit to Israel by the Gazprom delegation, which ended on Tuesday.

Ariel Sharon "stressed high interest in the supply of Russian gas to Israel on the basis of long-term contracts", reads the press release. The sides have agreed to set up a joint working group to look into the project.

"The most promising version is the supply of Russian gas via Turkey using the capacities of the gas pipeline Blue Stream and building a new sea gas pipeline across the Mediterranean", the press release reads. "The versions of Russian liquefied or compressed gas supply from the coast of Russia or Turkey will also be considered".

"Agreement has been reached on the early singing of a memorandum reflecting the said questions and describing the main goals of this stage of gas cooperation between Israel and Gazprom", the Gazprom press service says.

The Gazprom delegation has also held talks with Israeli Vice-Premier Ehud Barak, Finance Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, Infrastructure Minister Josef Paricki, Ofer Group president Eden Ofer.

Israeli spokesmen said at the talks that Israel is going in the next few years to carry out big plans for the development of its gas market. By 2025 the share of gas in the energy balance will be boosted from one to 25 percent. Towards this goal trunk gas pipelines, low-pressure distribution networks, new gas-fired power plants will be built.

"The Israeli government has voiced interest in Gazprom's involvement in these projects, particularly the designing and building of gas networks", the Gazprom press release reads.
