"The USA is interested in construction of the oil pipeline in the near future, because any delays in its construction may affect the world oil market", said Vershbow.
Construction of the oil pipeline will contribute to diversification of the oil export to the North American countries, which, in turn, will allow partial stabilization of the oil market, explained the ambassador.
At the same time, he stressed that selection of the optimal route was Russia's internal affair.
"Today I have heard convincing arguments of Yuri Yevdokimov, Governor of Murmansk region, that the oil pipeline should be drawn towards Murmansk (an ice-free port on the Barents Sea), earlier I became familiar with arguments of Semen Vainshtok, President of Transneft company, on advantages of other route options. The main thing is to select the route as soon as possible and implement the project" said the US ambassador.
Meanwhile, he pointed out that if the Russian government decided to attract foreign investments to the oil pipeline construction, American companies would actively participate in the investment tender.
"The issue of foreign participation in the oil pipeline construction is Russia's internal affair, however, in case the decision is positive, American companies would be very interested in participation in this project on the commercial basis", said Vershbow.
