PUTIN DISCUSSES STATE BORDER ISSUES WITH FSB HEAD

MOSCOW, May 28 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin, Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Nikolai Patrushev and head of the FSB Border Service, Colonel-General Vladimir Pronichev discussed state border issues.

At first, the President congratulated Vladimir Pronichev and his staffers on the Border Guards' Day (May 28) and proposed speaking about the situation on the state border and its problems.

Colonel-General Pronichev informed the President on the measures taken to develop the state border on all sectors, including the southern sector where the political situation is most dangerous.

The construction of modern border guard centers is underway in the South, he said adding that ten centers had been already built and 71 were planned to be built.

Moreover, a border guards' training center is being created in the North Caucasus. It will be completed in 2005. All the centers will be equipped with modern communication technologies.

According to FSB director Nikolai Patrushev, the border development problems, especially, financing, will be solved in time.

Constituent members of the Russian Federation are involved in border development, Nikolai Patrushev added.

All in all, 14.8 billion rubles ($500 million) were allocated on border development, Vladimir Pronichev said.
