MOSCOW, May 26 (RIA Novosti) - Cuba approves Russian efforts to settle the Iraqi crisis by political and diplomatic means, says Russia's Foreign Ministry press and information department.

Its statement sums up the latest round of Russo-Cuban consultations at the level of First Deputy Foreign Ministers. Havana hosted the event, May 24-25.

Vyacheslav Trubnikov, Russia's First Deputy Foreign Minister, met at the negotiation table with Felipe Perez, Cuban Foreign Minister, Fernando Ramirez, his First Deputy, and other prominent Foreign Ministry functionaries.

The Parties were satisfied to see their stances coincide, or at least be close, on key contemporary issues. They are determined to pool efforts against the latest threats and challenges on the basis of close compliance with the UN Charter and international legal norms.

Cuba approves Russian diplomatic efforts on the Quartet of international mediators to normalise Mideastern development and resume progress toward peace.

The negotiators focused attention on developments round Cuba-mainly in the context of Cuban-US relations again coming to an edge. Russia is alarmed as the US Administration has introduced new anti-Cuban sanctions.
