MOSCOW, May 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Gabon want to develop cooperation within the UN and other international organizations, the Russian Foreign Ministry's press and information department said following the talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Gabon's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Francophonie Affairs Jean Ping.

"The sides expressed interest in the expansion of effective and constructive cooperation within the UN and other international organizations, in particular, at the forthcoming 59th session of the UN General Assembly. Jean Ping is to preside over this session," the department said.

Russia and Gabon confirmed common positions on key international problems.

The sides focused on conflict settlement in Africa. "The ministers came out for the unconditional settlement of regional conflicts and crises by political means," the department reported.
