HELSINKI HOSTS SEMINAR ON ESCB COOPERATION WITH RUSSIAN CENTRAL BANK

HELSINKI, May 25. (RIA Novosti) - On Tuesday, May 25, Helsinki hosted the opening of a three-day seminar devoted to mechanism of cooperation between the Russian Central Bank and the European System of Central Banks (ESCB), which unites the European Central Bank and the national central banks of the EU member states.

As RIA Novosti has learned from the Russian Embassy to Finland, the seminar will take up the following topics: "Monetary policy and currency exchange rates in Russia", "Free capital movement - new challenge to monetary policy and financial stability", "EU and Russia: economic relations", "Development of the banking system and stability of the financial sector".

The seminar will be attended by chairman of the Russian Central Bank Sergei Ignatyev, president of the ECB Jean-Claude Trichet and other ECB officials, vice president of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development Fabrizio Saccomanni, deputy head of the European Commission's delegation to Russia Vincent Piket, as well as representative of national central banks of the EU members, including acting governor of the Bank of Finland Matti Louekoski and vice president of Deutsche Bundesbank Jurgen Stark.

Ignatyev will deliver a report on the monetary and currency policy. The debates on free capital movement will be chaired by first deputy chairman of the Russian Central Bank Alexei Ulyukayev. Deputy chairman of the Bank Andrei Kozlov will take part in a discussion devoted to the problems of developing the banking system and stability of the financial sector. Russian Ambassador to Finland Vladimir Grinin and Vincent Piket will speak on economic relations between the EU and Russia.

On Wednesday Ignatyev, Trichet and Louekoski will give a joint press conference.
