NIZHNY NOVGOROD, May 24 (RIA Novosti) - The head of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR), Metropolitan Laurus of Eastern America and New York, met on Monday with the Russian president's envoy in the Volga federal district, Sergei Kiriyenko.

A ROCOR delegation arrived in the Nizhny Novgorod region on Sunday.

Metropolitan Laurus told journalists that the delegation will visit the village of Diveyevo, where the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov are kept in the Holy Trinity Serafimo-Diveyevsky Monastery.

The 250th birth anniversary of St. Seraphim, a specially revered Russian saint, will be celebrated this summer. Events dedicated to the date will take place in Diveyevo, Sarov and Kursk.

In the Metropolitan's words, the delegation members were glad to see that the state takes part in restoration of shrines. The district and regional authorities, together with the diocese, took an active part in the preparation for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of canonization of St. Seraphim of Sarov.

Metropolitan Laurus said that now the Church sees the state as a party that is ready for cooperation after so many years of godlessness.

Kiriyenko said the Orthodox Church has always played a great role in Russia and that now there is space for joint work. Restoration of shrines connected with the name of St. Seraphim of Sarov is an example of such work, said the envoy.

"Today Russia needs unity and much can and should be done together. And we will do it," he said.

The ROCOR delegation has been in Russia since May 14.

Metropolitan Laurus held talks with the management of the Moscow Patriarchate on the restoration of the Russian Church's unity. The delegation is making a pilgrimage to Russian shrines.
