MOSCOW, May 24 (RIA Novosti) - This year, about 30 million people will come to spend holidays to Russia's resorts, Police Lt.-Gen. Vyacheslav Zakharenkov, the head of the Main Department of Internal Affairs on Transport told a press conference in Moscow on Monday.

"Practice shows that the holiday season from May to October is characterized by traffic flow growth by 50 to 100%," he said. Transport police bodies pay special attention to the accompaniment of railroad trains bound for resorts. "Some 1,700 police officers are engaged in these activities daily," Gen. Zakharenkov said.

In his words, the main load is connected with mass passenger transportation to resorts in the Krasnodar territory and Kavkazskiye Mineralniye Vody. These directions are serviced by 120 railway stations, 12 sea terminals, and 5 airports. All airports have the international status and service up to 50 flights a day.

During the last holiday season in 2003, railway and air transport's ridership was over 21.3 million people.

In May, at the meeting with Kabardino-Balkaria's president Valery Kokov (Kabardino-Balkaria is a republic in the North Caucasus known for its mountain ski resorts), Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke for the creation at Russia's resorts, including in Kabardino-Balkaria, of modern infrastructure and conditions for recreation. He added that in 1990s Russian resorts lived through a period of decline.
