ST. PETERSBURG HOSTS RUSSIAN CHALLENGE JUDO TOURNAMENT

ST. PETERSBURG, May 23 (RIA Novosti) - On Sunday St. Petersburg is hosting the Russian Challenge international youth judo tournament.

Young males and females aged 14-16 will take part, boys and girls sharing one team, the National Judo Union said.

Mixed judo teams have come from Belarus, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Romania, and Ukraine. Russia is represented by the national team and renowned Moscow-based club Yavara-M.

The international competition was inspired by Yavara-M and supported by the City Hall of St. Petersburg, Russia's Olympic Committee, National Judo Union, and Russia's Judo Federation.

The organizers plan to make the Russian Challenge an annual competition held in various Russian cities to develop and strengthen international sporting relations, promote judo, and attract teenagers into sports and healthy lifestyle.
