SOCHI, May 18 (RIA Novosti) - Nikolai Patrushev, director of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), hopes for the strengthening of interaction with the secret services of other countries. He told this to reporters in Sochi, appearing at the press conference on results of the 16th sitting of the heads of the CIS security agencies and secret services.

To Patrushev, the best form of interaction between the secret services of the antiterrorist coalition is joint operations and he hopes that "concrete positive examples of such interaction will increase in number".

The FSB director recalled the example of efficient cooperation between the FSB and the secret services of the United States and Britain, when they detained British national Lakhani, seeking to arrange a channel for carrying portable Igla missiles systems from Russia to the United States.

During investigation, "we got information on who financed such activities and that from 70 to 100 such systems was planned to be bought".

"It is a vivid real example of joint work of secret services of different countries, such as Germany and France", he noted.

Patrushev said also that the FSB, thanks to the information from Western secret services, has discovered Al-Qaeda representatives in Russia and edged them out to the territory of other countries, where they were arrested.

In turn, Boris Mylnikov, head of the CIS antiterrorist centre, said that "Russia is doing everything possible to preserve the antiterrorist coalition, despite the different positions on the Iraq situation".

In his opinion, a search for mutually acceptable approaches to the Iraq problem will be continued under the UN aegis.
