BRUSSELS, May 17 (RIA Novosti's Alexander Shishlo) - Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Michel Danet notes very close and productive relations with Russia.

Moscow has always emphasized interest in the establishment of personal relations with the secretary general of the World Customs Organization. We were honored to receive Mikhail Fradkov before he became the prime minister and was then working in Brussels. We spoke with him on the role and problems of customs, evolution of the world customs community, specific problems of the customs business in Russia, Danet told RIA Novosti in an interview.

Moscow has for about 15 years been showing interest in the World Customs Organization, participating in work of its leading bodies and instances such as the political commission and the financial committee, promoting a set of ideas advocated by the Russian customs. They are fully or partially supported by high delegations, which allows reaching a consensus in decisions acceptable for all parties, he said.

In this connection, Danet recalled that Russia is the vice-president of the World Trade Organization for the European region.

Another confirmation of Russia's interest in participation in the WCO is Moscow's initiative in using Russian as the working language in some of the WCO technical committees. And it is already used as such to enable experts participate in WCO in their language.

Thanks to support from the Russian government and the Russian customs, we have set up an excellent personnel-training center in Moscow. It prepares personnel for the Russian customs and those of the former Council for Mutual Economic Assistance, the WCO secretary general said.

It is in our common plans to open a training center for operators on the Russian market so as to prepare them for the inclusion of the Russian economy in the international trade system. We have projects whose implementation will begin in several weeks, instead of three to five years. I think that in September we'll get the first turn-out of personnel for Russian enterprises specializing in international trade.

It is an important beginning, which is absent from other regions of the world and is evidence of the capabilities of the Russian customs service in the promotion of some conceptual ideas, Michel Danet said in conclusion.
