ONLINE GANG STEALS HALF MILLION EUROS. RUSSIAN MASTERMINDS HELD IN SPAIN

MADRID, May 13 (RIA Novosti) - Spanish gendarmes detained three Russians today. They are suspected of knocking up and masterminding a transnational gang, whose world web swindles brought it more than half a million Euros removed from many bank accounts. The spoil was transferred to Russia.

The gang, which included two Estonians and a Dominican, had its HQ in Britain, with branches in Spain's Catalonia, Valencia and Andalusia, and accomplices in the USA, Australia and New Zealand. Spanish gendarmes have joined hands with local colleagues in all those countries in Operation Fez, reports the CadenaSER radio.

This is one of the biggest endeavours in online crime efforts, say top officers of the Spanish gendarmerie.

PR of the Barcelona gendarme office refused to specify the detainees' names to a Novosti reporter for investigation secrecy. Neither did they confirm the suspects' Russian nationality.

Just as people in other Western countries, the Spanish occasionally muddle up post-Soviet countries, so the swindlers are not certainly Russians.
