ST.PETERSBURG, May 11 (RIA Novosti-North West) - In the town of Kirishi in the Leningrad region, the third international water polo tournament among the best women's teams of the world will begin on May 16. Vadim Somov, president of the Russian Water Polo Federation and general director of the OOO Kirishinefteorgsintez, said this to journalists on Tuesday.
In the pre-Olympic tournament the national teams of the United States, Australia, The Netherlands, Kazakhstan, as well as two Russian teams - main and reserve, will participate.
Somov said that the competitions will be held in the new Aquatic Sports Center, which will open in Kirishi on May 16. Its 50-meter pool is fully in line with the new rules of the international aquatic sports federation. The center has up-to-date equipment.
Somov also noted that the Russian Water Polo Federation has initiated holding the 2006 European championship in Kirishi. The application has already been filed, he said.
The international water polo tournament will end on May 20.
