MOSCOW, May 11 (RIA Novosti) - Chechnya's State Council today elected Taus Jabrailov its president. He is determined to fight terrorism and religious extremism to a victorious end.

"I was side-by-side with Ahmad Kadyrov for nine years. He was my master and my older friend. He raised high his banner to clean Chechnya of terror and religious extremism, and we shall firmly hold that banner till we win," he said to Novosti in a telephone interview.

This day brought Mr. Jabrailov two spectacular election victories-to represent the Gudermes district in the State Council, and lead the Council. Yesterday, he was nominated republican Deputy Prime Minister.

In compliance with the law, Taus Jabrailov now has to resign from his two posts in the republican Cabinet-Deputy Premier and Minister for Nationalities Policies. He will formally apply for resignation to Sergei Abramov, acting republican president, he said to Novosti.

Hussain Isayev, previous State Council president, died with Chechnya's President Ahmad Kadyrov in a Grozny stadium blast of May 9 during a V-E anniversary gala.

Mr. Jabrailov mourns his predecessor, and highly appreciates what he had done in the State Council.
