AFGHAN FOREIGN MINISTER ARRIVES IN MOSCOW

MOSCOW, May 6 (RIA Novosti) - While on a working visit in Moscow head of the Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan Dr Abdullah Abdullah will discuss questions of Russia's participation in the restoration of Afghasnistan's economy and ensuring regional security. The Afghan minister told newsmen about this on his arrival at Moscow airport Sheremetyevo-2.

The program of the visit envisages meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Igor Ivanov and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov.

Replying to RIA Novosti's question, the Afghan minister stressed that the Afghan side intended to focus the talks on questions of Russia's participation in Afghanistan's rehabilitation "We attach great importance to the participation of Russia as a whole, and Russian companies in particular, in restoration of the Afghan economy", Dr Abdullah said.

Speaking about the forthcoming talks with the Russian defense minister, Dr Abdullah Abdullah stressed that the ministers will discuss issues of ensuring stability and security in Afghanistan and around it.

"In the recent past Afghanistan was a kind of a den of international terrorism and posed a serious threat not only to the region but also to the whole world. Today the situation in Afghanistan changed noticeably for the better, however it still demands the efforts of the regional states in rebuffing potential threats," Dr Abdullah said.

In reply to RIA Novosti's question the Afghan minister stressed that the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for September "will be held within the set timeframe and simultaneously, in accordance with the earlier adopted decision.
