MOSCOW, April 30 (RIA Novosti) - Andrei Kokoshin, chairman of the State Duma committee for CIS affairs and contacts with compatriots, has warned against Georgia's use-of-force attempts to settle the problem of Adzharia.

"The developments in Adzharia are alarming", Kokoshin said to RIA Novosti in an interview.

In the opinion of the Duma deputy, "destabilisation in the region as a result of the Georgian authorities' attempts to resolve the problem by force directly affects Russia's national security interests. This is said in the recent address of the State Duma to Georgian parliamentarians".

Kokoshin believes that the approach to Adzharia should also "take into account the Muslim factor and the general complex international situation - the worsening of the situation in Iraq, outbursts of terrorism in Uzbekistan and Spain, the emergence of increasing influence of radical Islamists in Turkey, other factors".

"Use-of-force attempts in Adzharia may affect regional stability in such a way that even joint actions towards normalisation by Russia, the West, Georgia, Armenia and other countries may entail a great effort", Andrei Kokoshin said.

Adzharia is Georgia's autonomy. In recent time, the conflict between the central power in Georgia and the leadership of Adzharia, led by Aslan Abashidze, has worsened.
