BUENOS AIRES, April 28 (RIA Novosti) - In Peru, events marking the 150th anniversary of The Avrora, a Russian frigate, arriving in Port Callao were held, the Russian Embassy in Peru said.

The Sanchez Carrion, a Peruvian battleship, went to sea in honor of this anniversary.

Representatives of the Peruvian Navy Command and Russian Ambassador Anatoly Kuznetsov put a wreath in the water.

During the Crimean War, a war between Russia and an English-French-Turkish coalition, an English and French squadron blocked The Avrora, a 44-cannon frigate, at Port Callao. In the fog, Russian sailors used seven boats to quietly tow the frigate out of the harbor, escaping the British patrol. The frigate then hoisted its sails and sailed away.

Two sailors died when The Avrora was in Callao. They were buried on San Lorenzo Island.

The name of Avrora was later given to a legendary cruiser that marked the beginning of the proletarian revolution in Russia in October 1917.

The "Military-Technical Cooperation between Russia and Peru: From the Beginning until the Present," photography exhibit opened in Lima.
