MOSCOW, April 26 (RIA Novosti) - The LUKoil is Russia's best petroleum company, says a Global Finance readers' poll. The evaluation concerned corporate managerial standards, accounting transparency, asset quality, cleanliness and certain other aspects, the winner proudly relates in a press release. The poll involved roughly 15,000 readers, including big investors and major bank and company managers.

The LUKoil's name derives from the initials of Langepas, Urai and Kogalym, West Siberian oilfields from which the company started its triumphal all-Russia career. It accounts today for 2 per cent of the global petroleum yield, and 1.3 per cent of the global petroleum amount, with a US$15 billion annual turnover. Its consolidated stock made 19.7 billion barrels in petroleum equivalent, as of January 1, 2003, to make it the world's second-biggest public petroleum company.

Started in 1987, The Global Finance comes out in 108 countries.
