PUTIN MEETS SECURITY COUNCIL MEMBERS

MOSCOW, April 25 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Putin has had a conference with members of the Russian Security Council, attended by Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, chief of the presidential administration Dmitry Medvedev, Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov, Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev, and FSB Director Nikolai Patrushev, reported the Kremlin spokesman Alexei Gromov.

Yesterday, the president signed a decree On endorsing the composition of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, the Kremlin press service told RIA Novosti.

According to this decree, the Russian president is the chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Permanent members of the Council are Speakers of both houses of parliament Boris Gryzlov and Sergei Mironov, Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov, Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Lebedev, Chief of the Kremlin administration Dmitry Medvedev, Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev, FSB Director Nikolai Patrushev, and Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov.

Members of the council include presidential plenipotentiary to the Siberian federal district Leonid Drachevsky, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and First Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Kvashnin, presidential plenipotentiary to the Volga federal district Sergei Kirienko, presidential plenipotentiary to the Northwestern federal district Ilya Klebanov, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin, presidential plenipotentiary to the Urals federal district Petr Latyshev, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Osipov, presidential plenipotentiary to the Central federal district Georgy Poltavchenko, presidential plenipotentiary to the Far Eastern federal district Konstantin Pulikovsky, Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov, Justice Minister Yuri Chaika, Emergencies Minister Sergei Shoigu, presidential plenipotentiary to the Southern federal district Vladimir Yakovlev.

This decree invalidates the president's earlier decrees regarding the composition of the Russian Security Council. The decree took effect on the day of signing.
