MOSCOW, April 23 (RIA Novosti) - Malaysian Foreign Minister Sayed Hamid Abdar has informed his Russian analogue Sergei Lavrov of the results of the meeting of the members of the Islamic Conference Organisation on the Middle East.

The Lavrov-Abdar telephone conversation was held on Friday at the Malaysian initiative, the Press and Information Board of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The foreign ministers exchanged opinions on the results of the special meeting in Malaysia between OIC member countries. They discussed the situation in the Middle East and Iraq", the board said. Lavrov and Abdar have stressed the importance of observing the Roadmap for the attainment of the Mideastern settlement, spoke up for the ensurance of the key role of the United Nations Security Council for the establishment of peace and stability in Iraq.

The emergency OIC foreign ministerial meeting was over on Thursday. A declaration was adopted on its results, in which participants voice themselves for the central role of the United Nations in Iraqi settlement. The OIC foreign ministers have invited the United Nations Security Council adopt a resolution promoting the restoration of sovereignty and full independence of the people of Iraq, giving the United Nations the required powers and authority for the attainment of this goal.

Delegations of the states making up this most influential Muslim organisation have censured the actions of the American armed forces, particularly their rude neglect for the protection of civilians, as well as the destruction of shrines, which is in glaring violation of the corresponding Geneva conventions.

In a separate declaration, participants condemn the Israeli practice of extrajudicial killings, which runs counter the fundamental principles of international law. They have confirmed their loyalty to the peaceful settlement in the Middle East on the basis of the Roadmap, resolutely rejected the Israeli plan, which is contrary to the Roadmap.

"We invite the Security Council to consider the question of dislocating the UN peacekeeping forces or creating an international mechanism to monitor implementation of the Roadmap", the declaration reads.
