Chairman of the State Duma committee on CIS and relations with compatriots Andrei Kokoshin stated this after the end of the meeting on Tuesday.
"Recommendations will certainly be worked out. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has already submitted quite a number of proposals," the chairman of the committee said.
"The president of Russia declared relations with the CIS countries to be our foreign-policy priority. The CIS countries are a sphere of our strategic interests. That is why all the situations of a conflict and crisis character, the problems emerging within the CIS countries, and the trans-border problems between individual CIS countries have direct relation to the question of Russia's security," Mr. Kokoshin said.
For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov added that "vast experience of the development of the CIS and of integration and military-political groupings has already been accumulated at this stage." According to Sergei Lavrov, all this makes it possible to comprehend the experience and to look at what the next stage will be, considering the fact that "a regular CIS summit will be held this autumn."
