MOSCOW, April 17 (RIA Novosti) - The revenues of the Russian budget from privatization of 145,000 Russian enterprises for the last decade totaled $9.7 billion.

These data were cited on Saturday by the head of Russia's Audit Chamber, Sergei Stepashin at a round table "The Results of Privatization and the Strategy of Development of Russia's Economy." "The budget received $9.7 billion from privatization of 145,000 enterprises - this is the sum Russian tourists left abroad last year," Mr. Stepashin said.

He recalled that the government instructed the Audit Chamber to conduct a summarizing analysis of the results of privatization for the last decade.

"Our work is not oriented to the past but to the future," the head of the Audit Chamber emphasized. "Our main task is not exposure of injustices or count of losses for the country's economy from pirate-like methods of privatization," he added.

In his words, the Audit Chamber sees as its main aim giving assessment to the influence of privatization consequences on the implementation of the strategy of accelerated economic growth, enhancing the population's living standard, as well as making Russian enterprises more competitive.
