MOSCOW, April 17 (RIA Novosti) - Oleg Keselman will be the first Russian driver to take part in one of Europe's most popular racing series - Porsche Carrera Cup.

The qualifying and the main races of the series' first round will take place this Saturday and Sunday on the famous Hockenheim-Ring circuit in Germany which annually hosts Formula-1 events.

At his pre-start press conference, Keselman said that his entry bid surprised the series' organizers. However, according to him, Europe's racing world has been getting used to his name on the start list of late.

"A year ago I did not think I would take part in this race," Keselman said. "I hope a year in the Porsche Carrera Cup series will elevate me to a higher league of drivers".

Oleg Keselman was one of the first Russian drivers who took part in international racing events abroad. He won several races and came second or third in many others.

The Porsche Carrera Cup series comprises eight races taking place on major track circuits in Germany, Italy, Netherlands and the Czech Republic. The series opens and closes with races on the Hockenheim Ring circuit. According to Keselman, these two races will be of a particular interest to him. " I want to compare the level of my performance at the start and finish of the season," he pointed out.

This year, Oleg Keselman plans to adjust to the Porsche Carrera Cup requirements and get used to his new car, which, he says, is very fast. "Next year, I'll challenge German drivers' leadership," the Russian racer stressed.
