CIS INTERPARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY, CSTO SIGN COOPERATION AGREEMENT

ST PETERSBURG, April 17 (RIA Novosti) - An Agreement on cooperation was signed at a joint session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) Council and the Collective Security Treaty Organization Security Council's Committee of Secretaries.

The agreement envisages enhancing joint efforts in the cause of unification of national legislations of the CSTO member countries on issues of ensuring collective security, including issues of defense, countering international terrorism and extremism, illegal turnover of drugs and psychotropic substances and other threats to security.

The agreement was signed by Sergei Mironov, the chairman of the CIS IPA Council, chairman of the Russian Federation Council, and Amirkul Azimov, the chairman of the CSTO Security Council's Committee of Secretaries, Tajikistan's Security Council secretary.

In their joint statement, the chairmen welcomed the signing of the cooperation agreement and spoke in support of holding joint sessions of the said structures.
