BEIJING, April 14 (RIA Novosti) - One of the largest Chinese telecommunications companies, China Unicom, which is also one of the leading Asian mobile communications operators, announced Wednesday the opening of the first ground optical fiber cable that connected the PRC and Europe.

The new telecommunications system became an important addition to the already existing underwater cable and satellite communications connecting China with the USA, Japan, and South Korea.

China Unicom's press secretary said the new optical fiber cable was laid together with Russian and Mongolian companies; it is 7,500 km long and its maximum throughput capacity is 622 MB per second. A new synchronized data transfer system that connected China, Russia and Mongolia is used to transfer information through the new cable.

The new data transfer system may be moved to other European and Asian countries, with Russia's and China's resources used.
