MOSCOW, April 9 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow is largely worried by the growing crisis in Iraq.

The Russian Foreign Ministry's statement reads that "reports arriving from that country are evidence of numerous victims as a result of military clashes between the coalition forces and Iraqi resistance".

"In a particular plight is the civilian population in the regions of the most fierce clashes, particularly in the besieged el-Falluja city. Under attack are hospitals, living quarters and houses of prayer. Innocent people are dying, including old people, women, children. Hundreds have been wounded. The city is in acute need of medicines and food", the statement stresses.

"According to the unanimously adopted Resolution 1483 of the United Nations Security Council, the powers of occupation have pledged strictly to observe the corresponding clauses of international humanitarian law. It intends, particularly, the prevention of non-selective and non-proportional use of force", the Russian Foreign Ministry stresses.

Russia calls for ending the hostilities, showing restraint. "A humanitarian catastrophe reaching Iraqi cities must be averted, further escalation of the conflict in Iraq prevented", notes the statement of the Russian foreign policy establishment.
