MOSCOW, April 9 (RIA Novosti) - Maksim Medvedkov may be appointed envoy of the Russian president at the talks on Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization, said a source in the Russian government.

Until now, Mr. Medvedkov was the main Russian negotiator on the WTO as deputy economic development and trade minister.

"The government is considering the possibility to raise his status to stress the importance of this cause," said the source.

The source also said the government does not consider the lowering of the status of a number of deputy ministers who conducted talks on some issues with foreign colleagues to be a problem.

As is known, as a result of the administrative reform, each minister will have only two deputies, while the remaining deputies will have the posts not higher than a department director.

"Not all countries have such a division by posts at talks. There's no special problem in the lowering of the status, the more so as such negotiating relations are built with Russia that our negotiators are personified by direction to a great extent, and not the post represents the position, but a specific expert," said the source.
