MOSCOW, April 8 (RIA Novosti) - Konsatntin Kosachev, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the State Duma (lower house of the Russian parliament), has urged the global community to offer collective resistance to terrorism.

"The human race's only chance [for survival] in the current situation, which assumes increasingly alarming contours, will be to give up unilateral attempts to put the world in order and [move on] to build a frontline for collective resistance to global terror," Kosachev said in a RIA interview. He pointed out that the latest developments, including the recent upsurge in anti-Serb violence in Kosovo and the current Shiite insurgency in Iraq, "reveal the bitter truth: the United States, which has taken on the mission of the world's savior from the threat of terrorism, has, in fact, no clear-cut action plan and is bluffing in an attempt to intimidate its real or virtual enemies with its omnidestructive might." "Unfortunately, that bluff doesn't pass without consequences for the global community; already, opponents of civilized solutions to topical global problems are rallying... on anti-American and, ultimately, anti-civilization platforms," Kosachev said.

As our interviewee sees it, modern-day global security problems cannot be solved using the capabilities of a single nation or of a powerful bloc of nations. He said Russia was ready to act as part of a global anti-terrorist coalition and expressed hope that the U.S. would soon become aware of the futility of its unilateral efforts in the fight against terrorism and join hands with the rest of the world community .
