MOSCOW, APRIL 7. /RIA NOVOSTI / -- In order to further develop information and communications technologies in Russia equal access to Internet is, first of all, to be ensured for all Russians.

Leonid Reiman, head of the Russian Communications Ministry, now being closed, said this on Wednesday at the press conference on the tenth anniversary of Domain RU.

Certain steps are being made in this direction, he said. "Minding the economic specifics of inequality, we stake on several projects. One is the opening of collective-access centres", Reiman said.

He recalled that over 3,000 such centres, first of all in remote populated places, have already been opened. Over three million Russians have already used them and this number is increasing, he added.

"It is now clear that Internet has become the basis for the development of modern civilisation. In Russia Internet has become an element of life, a factor for economic development", Reiman said.

Now over ten percent of the Russian population are using Internet and in the last three to four years the number of users has been annually increasing by 35 to 40 percent.

"Thanks to the emergence of Domain RU, we have become closer and more understandable to the world and the world has become closer and more understandable to us", Reiman said in conclusion.
