ON RUSSIAN COSMONAUTUCS DAY, AIRCRAFT-MAKERS TO SHOW OFF THEIR LATEST ACHIEVEMENTS

MOSCOW, APRIL 7. (RIA NOVOSTI) -- Latest developments by Russia's largest aircraft-making works will be on display at the international show Power Plant Units-2004, held during the Cosmonautics Day on April 12.

Victor Chuiko, general director of the engine show, told the press conference in Moscow that the Russian medium-haul plane RRG with Russian-French SM-146 engines be demonstrated. The plane, seating from 50 to 70 passengers, will be ready for mass production by 2007. Up to 70 percent of the output will be in service in Russia. France will invest over 200 million dollars in the project. Another exhibit will be the new Russian-Ukrainian cargo plane RUS/AN-148 with the D-436-148 engines.

Regarding Russia's engine-making performance last year, Chuiko said that the financial and economic health of Russian aviation industry factories on the whole improved. To him, their production and sale figures increased by 24.3 percent from the year before. The volume of work done by sectoral research institutes increased by 21.6 percent and that done by design offices by 19.2 percent.
