MOSCOW, March 31, 2004. (RIA Novosti). Russia and Georgia are to sign an agreement on military-technical cooperation soon, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov told journalists on Wednesday following the talks with his Georgian counterpart Gela Bezhuashvili.

"We shall sign a major agreement in the military-technical sphere in the near future," Mr. Ivanov said.

According to him, the Russian and Georgian Defense Ministries are to sign a plan of bilateral cooperation soon.

Russia has confirmed its readiness for training Georgian servicemen at Russian military schools under privileged conditions within the CIS quotas, Sergei Ivanov noted.

"In addition, we are to achieve practical agreements on the transfer of Russian military objects in Transcaucasia to Georgia," the minister said.

In his words, Russia does not need or use these objects anymore and it is up to Georgia to decide on their future.
