CHINA, RUSSIA TO BRING TRADE TURNOVER TO $100 BN MARK, CALLS AMBASSADOR

MOSCOW, MARCH 30 (RIA NOVOSTI) - China is calling to enhance its trade turnover with Russia to an annual $100 billion, Liu Guchang, Chinese Ambassador to Russia, said to a news conference in Moscow today.

Last year's $15.7 billion turnover was negligible, considering the two countries' vast economic potential, he pointed out.

"We must set ourselves an objective-and get the turnover to an annual hundred billion dollars," insists Mr. Liu.

He finds the present bilateral commercial assortment not versatile enough, and calls to enhance the share of high-tech products.

The two countries have no sufficient amount of ambitious investment projects. To promote them, Russia and China need closer contacts between their business circles, stressed the ambassador.

China intends to exhibit its engineering and electronic products in Moscow within the year's latter half to precede a 9th bilateral summit, he added.

The Russian Far East is hosting, April, a trade fair to promote capital investment in the area. The event will offer investment projects involving many industries-timber, mining, power, engineering, light and electronic, to say nothing of agriculture. The projects were totally estimated at five billion US dollars last year, said Mr. Liu.

China will host one of its habitual investment fairs, early September. Russia has applied to take part, he announced.
