GAMSAKHURDIA JR. RETURNS TO SWITZERLAND

TBILISI, March 30 (RIA Novosti) - The son of Georgia's first president Zviad Gamsakhurdia, Konstantin Gamsakhurdia, who is the leader of the Tavisupleba (Freedom) movement that ran for March 28 parliamentary elections in Georgia, has left Tbilisi for Switzerland.

Konstantin Gamsakhurdia told journalists in Tbilisi airport that despite "substantial violations" that took place during the elections, his party "managed to gain a substantial number of votes." Mr. Gamsakhurdia said he did not intend to make any comments on elections.

Konstantin Gamsakhurdia has been living in Switzerland with his family for the last 12 years. He has been engaged in scientific and teaching activity.

According to the data of Georgia's Central Election Commission as of 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, Tavisupleba gained 4.51% of the votes. 7% of the total number of votes is needed make it into parliament in Georgia.
