MOSCOW, March 30, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow has urged the world community to decide on how sovereignty in Iraq will be passed, the Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said at a press conference in RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
Giving the power back to the Iraqi people is scheduled for June 30th. It is "a significant date" and "it is necessary to decide how it will happen," the Russian diplomat said.
Moscow believes there are several ways to make the process internationally legitimate: by adopting a relevant UN Security Council resolution or by holding an international conference.
Russia will take an active part in international efforts to stabilize the situation in Iraq within the UN Security Council, Mr. Yakovenko said.
