"It is not a new problem. If left unattended, the threat to national security increases with time", Vladislav Sherstyuk, first deputy secretary of the Security Council, has said.
Appearing at the conference the Ensurance of Information Security in the Use of Information-Telecommunications Networks, Sherstyuk drew the attention to the danger of using telecommunication networks for terrorist ends. According to him, it is prompted by antiterrorism narrowing the area of terrorist activities, the relative lack of protection of computer networks, the growing number of users of computers ready to make criminal use of them.
"Systems crucial to society can fall under attacks", Sherstyuk stressed. And added that the Russian Security Council is analysing the level of protection of vital information systems.
