LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE OPENS ALTERNATIVE INVESTMENT MARKET FOR RUSSIA

MOSCOW, MARCH 29, 2004 (RIA NOVOSTI) - The London Stock Exchange has started promoting an alternative investment market for young and growing companies in Russia and other CIS countries, Tracy Piers, the Exchange's director for international business development, said today.

The alternative investment market is perceived as the London Stock Exchange's second-level market for young and growing companies.

We have established solid contacts with the Russian market, helping some Russian companies to operate on the main exchange market rather successfully, Piers noted. The alternative investment market is the most successfully developing financial market in the world, and we believe that the smaller and younger Russian companies will consider its unique market-regulation structure and direct access to investment funds and information advantages of quoting shares in London as quite attractive.

According to Piers, there don't exist any specific criteria for hitting the alternative investment market. Those particular companies, whose capital doesn't exceed the $150 million mark, and which don't have any free shares in circulation, may claim the right to obtain investment at the London Stock Exchange.

Top Exchange managers are to negotiate with some Russian companies, which are potentially ready to operate on the alternative investment market, also holding consultative conferences, Piers noted in conclusion.
