TBILISI, March 28, 2004. ( RIA Novosti). Nino Burdzhanadze, speaker of the Georgian parliament elected in 1999, told about her intention to take this post once again. She said about this to the journalists Sunday, after she voted at a polling station in Tbilisi.

"As far as I know, my candidacy will be proposed for the post of the parliament's chairman. But perhaps you have some other information...", Burdzhanadze said according to the Novosti-Georgia agency.

"Georgian Revolution of roses has played its role giving an opportunity to hold normal democratic elections," she continued. "Parliamentary elections are a major stage after the revolution and the early presidential elections (won, as is known, by Mikhail Saakashvili). The whole of Georgia is switching over to a new phase of development," Burdzhanadze said to the journalists.

"I hope that the new parliament will become a structure which will meet the interests of the entire Georgian people and translate into life all the hopes placed on it," Burdzhanadze added.

In her opinion, free and democratic elections on the territory of the Adzharian autonomy (whose leadership is still accused of covert separatism by Tbilisi, despite the seemingly resolved criris) are the main condition for the settlement of the remaining problems between Tbilisi and Batumi.

"Adzharia's leadership must decide how ready it is to ensure the agreements between the center and the region and settle the problems between Tbilisi and Batumi," Burdzhanadze noted. In her words, "there is a real danger of provocations in Adzharia on the day of elections." "I hope, however, that this will not happen and we shall maintain peace and stability," she added.

At the same time, she denied that the Georgian authorities were going to bring military hardware in Adzharia, as members of the Adzharian leadership claimed recently.

"No one talks about the introduction of military hardware to Adzharia. This was repeatedly stressed by the Georgian president and other members of the Georgian leadership. We intend to settle the existing problems through elections, peaceful methods and a dialogue," Nino Burdzhanadze said in conclusion.
