MOSCOW, March 27, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov opened a new building of the Moscow military registration and enlistment office on Saturday.

"This is an important event both for Moscow and Russia as a whole. The armed forces and the state need it," Mr. Ivanov said.

The new building is equipped with the latest communications means connecting it with all Moscow's military recruiting offices and the city government.

"Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov gives much attention to the Moscow military district and fleets. It's not in vain that he was awarded with the order For Military Services," Sergei Ivanov noted.

The Moscow government helps the armed forces not barely in word but truly in deed, the minister added.

According to Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, "the army service to one's country is the greatest honor for any man." "A country without an army is not a country but a territory," he said.

The second stage of the construction of the Moscow military registration and enlistment office will be accomplished this year, the press service of the Moscow City Hall reported.
