NOVOSIBIRSK, MARCH 24, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI). Remains of a mammoth have just been unearthed in the Novosibirsk region, in Western Siberia. Builders who were digging out a foundation pit discovered the remains and handed them over to the regional museum of local lore, the museum's director, Nina Kozlova, reports.
Novosibirsk paleontologists have asked the construction team working at the site for permission to start archeological excavations here. They hope they will be able to find more fragments of the mammoth's skeleton and piece them back together.
