MOSCOW, March 24, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Russia may continue participating in the construction of the nuclear power station in Tianwan, a chief of the Russian federal agency for nuclear power, Vladimir Asmolov, told reporters.

According to him, Russia is most likely to participate in the construction of the third and fourth units.

He recalled that presently Russia was constructing two units.

According to Mr. Asmolov, a pit has already been dug out for the third and fourth units, and "it fits the size of the Russian reactors." "In all, China is trying to construct nuclear units on different grounds. On one of the grounds, all the units are Russian, on the second - Chinese, on the third - French and on the fourth - Canadian," specified Asmolov.

According to him, the first unit is to be inaugurated in late May, and the second in 10 months.

Mr. Asmolov said that the last batch of fuel had been delivered to Tianwan from Novosibirsk (Siberia) a week ago.

He added that about 700 Russian experts were working at the station in China. Now pre-launch tests are being conducted, he concluded.
