The Il-76 super-size aircraft delivered tents, beds, bed sheets, power generating units, equipment for field kitchens and water filters. All these are meant for the tent camp where refugees are to be accommodated.
The aircraft were met at Belgrade airport by Russian Emergencies Minister Sergei Shoigu who arrived in Serbia and Montenegro on Monday following Mr. Putin's instructions.
Russia is to provide Serbia with two tent camps for at least 2,000 people. It has not been decided where to put them up. On Friday, another two aircraft are expected to arrive with the equipment for the second camp.
According to the emergencies ministry, in all its aircraft will make eight flights to deliver aid to Kosovo refugees.
Mr. Shoigu earlier said in Belgrade that the Russian humanitarian aid program would be implemented in three stages. The first one is the deployment of the tent camps mentioned above. Then, medicines are to be provided, and then distributed by the Serbian refugee committee. At the third stage, housing modules for constructing a 200-family settlement with all the necessary infrastructure are to be delivered to Serbia by train.
