TBILISI, MARCH 23. (RIA NOVOSTI). In a special operation of the Georgian Interior Ministry on Tuesday morning, in the Khevsuretia mountain area on the border with Daghestan (republic in Russia's Southern federal district) the police found 40 aircraft air-to-ground missile systems with the launch units.

"Militants used such weapons in Chechnya. I've no doubt that in their time Chechens brought them to Georgia but have not taken them out", Interior Minister Georgi Baramidze told the press conference in Tbilisi.

"The operation has been prepared on the basis of operative information, saying that this combat arsenal was going to be taken out of Georgia very soon", Baramidze said.

"It is anybody's guess whom these weapons were to be used against, but people could have died no matter in Georgia or Russia", Baramidze said.

The Georgian Interior Minister stressed that this operation is "a positive step in Russian-Georgian cooperation against crime and terrorism. We hope that Russia will duly appreciate it".
